What does accepting people for who they are, as they are, have to do with allergies?

I actually don’t know, but when I did the following exercise, my lifelong allergy to cats went away. Since then I have had and lived with a cat for 10 years, and now have a dog, birds, and children 🙂 I am no longer allergic to cats and horses and I believe it has to do with this change in attitude and world perception.

I am an acupuncturist and holistic healer and have been observing allergies in myself, family (we have genetically inherited allergic tendencies), and patients for 20 years. I have some observations that I think will be helpful to many people who suffer from allergies.

Years ago I met someone who changed my life and the person I used to be. This friend easily and naturally allowed people to be who they are – he  appreciated the essence of a person, or what makes a person who he or she is – the personality quirks, unique qualities, gifts, life story, and to just see the uniqueness of an individual as a beautiful, funny, or interesting thing. Rather than focus on what many of us often focus on (what is wrong, annoying, or difficult about a person), I started to become more interested in the uniqueness of each person. I never considered myself a judgemental or critical person, but somehow this small shift had a very profound impact on my health and relationships.

Wow did this make life easier. I enjoyed just seeing a person for who they are and shrugging off the character traits that I don’t find appealing.

Without my realizing it, this shift in attitude toward others also changed my subconscious criticisms I had about myself that I didn’t even know I had!  The inner critic, self judgement, higher expectations, perfectionist qualities that kept me imprisoned in a small box, just deflated inside me. Somehow I no longer lived with this unconscious inner tension from self criticism and perfectionist expectations. I came to accept and appreciate myself for who I am, as I am,  all the while on a lifelong journey of self improvement, awakening, and exploration. I believe this shift in my own attitude towards others  was a spiritual healing for me.  In my case, the absence of this inner pressure directly resolved my intense allergies to cats and horses.

I now realize simply that when we judge or criticize others, we are avoiding dealing with something we don’t like in ourselves. We use it as a distraction, when we are unwilling to face or acknowledge and deal with something in ourselves that we reject. When we stop judging and accept what is, then we can work to always improve and evolve into what we want to be.

5 Steps to Stop Self Cruelty and Cruelty Towards Others

  1. Notice when we are judging others or ourselves – in our minds, or out loud talking to others.  It may be happening all day long, or occasionally.
  2. Notice that judgement is a charged energy, not a neutral observation. When something is charged, something is being avoided, rejected, or projected outside ourselves.
  3. Bring the focus back to ourselves.  What inside me is feeling insufficient, comparing ,jealous, or rejected by me?  What do I wish I could take care of, but can’t right now (or haven’t yet gotten to)?
  4. Neutralize judgement and just observe with genuine curiosity.
  5. Accept whatever it is in this moment, and lovingly take steps to change or address what it is that we want changed.  Ask for guidance and support to resolve and make change.  Our hearts  long for us to work on to be the best we can be.

This work might be spontaneous, or it might take some focus and time, but please let me know if it helps reduce allergies or supports you in any other way! Of course you can include into your regime our Natural Histamine Supplements for added support.
